    turgut balikci has sextuplets. joining pasha, bodrum, bella sguardo, ayza and bella luna on his roster of restos is the new bar luna, a casual italian small plates place with chef jacques belanger (west branch) in the kitchen. a homey setting gives way to mod interpretations on white truffle pizza, burrata with roasted peppers, clams and chorizo. heartier pastas are also on hand for more in-depth dining. opens this month. 511 amsterdam avenue. between 84th and 85th. 212.362.1098.

    this is shaping up to be a big year for the suhanoskys, the husband and wife chef team of ron and colleen. they had easy success with sfoglia, so they decided to do it again. with a twist. after opening tutto sfoglia, a gourmet shop next to their resto, they are readying their newest venture civetta. together with the team at via quadronno, the double decker nolita resto includes a basement lounge and special touches like rustic wine barrel chandeliers. for the eats? house made lamb sausage with drunken rising and monkfish polpette (meatballs). keep an eye out for the owl homage: it's the official mascot of the civetta district in siena, italy. open this month. 98 kenmare street. at centre. 212.274.9898.

    chef michael psilakis is making good use of the space that once held incarnations of his restos onera and kefi. enter gus & gabriel, his new swank gastropub that takes soups, sammies and home-style diner plates to new levels. taking big strides away from his greek background, psilakis dishes out chili, french onion soup and BLT grilled cheese made with triple-smoked bacon and brioche. and for dessert? try chef zachary miller's PB&J cupcakes or homemade apple crisp with burnt caramel and toffee crunch. now open. 222 west 79th street. between amsterdam and broadway. 212.362.7470.

    top chef alum manuel trevino, formerly of dos caminos, will be manning the menu at travertine. the long-delayed resto, housed in the former little charlie's clam house space, is a dream come true for the aussie bro and sis team of dustin and danae cappelletto. once the manager of est. restaurant in sydney's establishment hotel, danae hopes to break the curse of the resto's past with trevino's italian-focused medi menu. opens mid-july. 19 kenmare street. between elizabeth and bower. 212. 966.1810.

    former model emma cleary is behind the mott, a new gastro-pub style resto and lounge, that lives in the former palais royale/ double happiness space. chef brian bieler, who did a year-long stint at bouley, has developed a mod american menu that focuses on the seasons. think crispy pork belly served with stone fruits and spring lettuce, seared john dory and ricotta gnocchi. the long-awaited resto (which was supposed to be open on new year's eve 2009 ), is making use of the bi-level space and will unveil a subterranean lounge called lucky's eleven in the future. opens this month. 173 mott street. at broome. 212.966.9263.

    chef/owner philip guardione who briefly took over for markus sammuelson at markato 55 and before that was the chef at the four season hotel in milan, has planned a contempo italian menu at his new resto piccola cucina that both the purists (veal Milanese, spaghetti with fresh tomato sauce and basil) and the curious (filet mignon napoleon, asparagus and marjoram lasagna) can appreciate. he enlisted the help of designer giampiero panepinto - a former fashion designer and stylist whose designs were sold at barneys and takashimaya – to transform the slipper sized little kitchen into a soho style space. white washed walls, mirrored panels and ttalian wallpaper envelope the cozy 22 seat restaurant and the bar is decorated with arabesque carvings, mirrored shelves and bottle shaped glass lamps by jonathan adler hanging overhead. now open. 184 prince street. between sullivan and Thompson. 212-625-3200.

    When I was 10 or so, I had a conversation with my dad in which he casually mentioned that he wouldugg boots sale almost certainly not live past 70, because his dad didn’t and most of the men in his family seemed to succumb to something or other at around that age. The women of his line all lived until 100, even while their spines crumbled and their brains turned to custard, but the men (who were probably like my dad—amiable, didn’t want to be a bother to anyone) up and died at relatively early ages. At the time of this conversation, I was none too pleased at this news, but at the same time I thought, well, 70 is cheap ugg bootsexceedingly old, after all, and by then it will be The Future, and we’ll all be living on the moon. And then I wandered off to play with my Atari 2600 or whatever the hell I was doing at 10.
