    Secrets of a Skinny Chef

Just in time for my post fashion week feeling of unhealthiness, I received an advanced copy of Secrets of a Skinny Chef by Jennifer Iserloh.  The book, due out mid March by Rodale, contains 100 guilt free recipes for the most beloved comfort food dishes there are. Think Mac and cheese, brownies, fried chicken - all the good stuff.  The goal of the book, according to Jennifer Iserloh, is to celebrate food and to keep eating the foods you love, but  in a healthier way.

I absolutely love cookbooks and am not ashamed to admit that I own so many that I had to open a storage unit. Right now seems like the perfect time to invest a few evenings learning some new, healthful recipes.  Reason one being the above result of fashion week and reason two being the fact that I, much like many new Yorkers out there, am a bit thin in the wallet these days. Hey, at least something is thin, right? Gotta stay positive!

But really, in thumbing through this book today, what I like a lot, aside from the promise of healthy and tasty Cajun catfish in cornmeal breading, is that I already have most of these ingredients in my pantry. Which means no after work visits to the gourmet market or Korea town for new ingreds. These are recipes easily achieved by thawing out what’s in the freezer and attacking the spice rack.

I plan on attacking the Just Like Takeout Sweet-and-Sour Chicken the next time the take out fairy plants a seed in my head.

    Stay tuned for the results!

    The New York Diet

This diet was developed by David Kirsch - he is the  trainer of supermodels  including Heidi Klum and actresses like Anne Hathaway. It is based on a special food regime and sport exercise program. If done properly it is said that you can lose up to 14 pounds and 5 inches off your waist.
This diet is based on a high protein, low-carb regime.

It is divided in 3 phases:

    The New York Diet
    • Phase 1

In the first 2 weeks you are allowed to eat mushrooms, egg whites, salmon, nuts, vegetables that have low starch and plenty of whey protein.
You are not allowed to eat or drink alcohol, dairy products, coffee, fruits and other fats. On this phase you are only allowed an 800 to 1000 calories intake a day.

    • Phase 2

Lasts for 2 weeks and is similar to Phase 1 with one exception: you are allowed to eat an extra serving of carbohydrate food like beans, sweet potatoes, berries, etc. On this phase you are allowed to consume about 900 - 1000 calories a day.

    • Phase 3

In this phase you can start introducing slowly and moderately in your diet foods that were prohibited in Phase 1.

During this diet training is very important so you need to jog or jump rope for about 45 minutes a day and work every muscle group.

The rich protein diet combined with physical exercises is an excellent way for burning fat.
This diet leads to a great body in a record time.

    Victoria's Secret Models' Diet

Want to know what the VS girls eat? Here is a roundup of write ups on their diet:

    Miranda Kerr

Miranda has long been sticking to a strictly organic diet, her trainer reveals. Once he started working with her, he also placed more stress on focusing on eating healthy at all times so that she never lacked the energy required for her busy lifestyle and to avoid piling on the pounds. Consequently, Miranda’s diet consists mostly of carbohydrates and lean protein-rich foods, such as egg whites, cottage cheese, oatmeal, vegetables, muesli, fruit and, of course, yogurt. For lunch she has something very light, like a salad with chicken or fish, while dinner mainly consists of fish, turkey or chicken and, of course, vegetables. (via softpedia)

    Alessandra Ambrosio

Well, women everywhere are now vindicated: Ambrosia has fessed up to actually doing some work to get back into ridiculous shape. Not only did she tell People.com that she had to do a lot of cardio to shed the jiggle, she also admitted that she stuck to a very healthy meal plan that included “like no sugar, no bread” after her daughter Anja Louise was born in August ‘08. Once-a-week yoga, my ass! We know it’s not nice to delight in someone else’s dieting, but come on, she had this one coming. [People]--Lily Quateman for The Frisky

    Marissa Miller

Victoria Secret model Marisa Miller revealed diet and beauty secrets that make her the world’s most sexy model. Marisa denies ever starving herself to maintain her perfect model figure, she explains: “I’d much rather work out and not diet than not work out and have to diet”.

That doesn’t mean Marisa doesn’t eat healthy, she starts each day with a bowl of steel cut oatmeal with 2 spoonfuls of maple syrup, a little milk, and some sliced bananas. During the day she snacks on an apple with a couple wedges of Laughing Cow cheese, or Flavor and Fiber bars. As a special treat for desert Marisa indulges in some sliced strawberries or bananas drizzled with melted chocolate – how satisfying! (via fitness magazine)
